CIS technology

CIS consists of the following key components:

CIS Cashier system

The Nirph CIS Cashier system allows the cashier to capture a customer’s fingerprints and photo digitally.  The system incorporates an electronic fingerprint scanner and a digital camera.

New/existing customers: When a customer arrives at the branch and is not yet enrolled on the CIS system the cashier enters the customer’s account number, which in turn retrieves the customers’ data from the financial system (e.g. Finacle) and then verifies the customers’ identity.

The cashier then requests the customer to first place his left and right index finger on the scanner. The cashier then captures the customers’ photo, and transact.

On first addition to the system the customer is requested to complete a compliancy form, sign it and then hand it in at the cashier.

Existing CIS customers: When a customer arrives at the branch that has already been captured onto the system, the cashier enters the customer’s account number into CIS and all the customers’ details are displayed to the cashier, including the customers’ photo and signature (ref: Nirph Encompass).  The cashier then requests the customer to place his fingerprint on the scanner to verify the customers’ identity.

Once this process is completed and the customer is positively identified the cashier are allowed to continue the transaction.

The system also allows for multiple users per account number. (E.g. joint accounts or company accounts)

3rd party customers: When a 3rd party customer arrives at the branch (1st time), he is requested to 1st complete a compliancy form. When the 3rd party customer arrives at the cahier, the cashier captures an identification number (e.g. license card number, identification card number, or referee details), the 3rd party customer’s photo and fingerprints1.

If a 3rd party customer is already enrolled he can visit any bank branch and transact instantaneously by simply having the cashier the cashier enter his identification number into the CIS system and verify his details, photo and a fingerprint.

Fraud id: When a fraudulent or suspicious transaction is detected, the transaction is blacklisted on CIS Fraud ID (refer to CIS Fraud ID) and in turn linked to a 3rd party or customer ID. 1 When that person arrives to transact at the branch the cashier and head cashier are notified.

CIS Branch server system

The CIS branch server system is located on the local branch server, or bandwidth permitted is co-located. The CIS branch server application controls and manages data throughput through to the local cashiers and also contains the fraudster ID database. CIS Branch connects directly into the localized financial system e.g. FAB.

Replication: The CIS branch server system also manages data replication through to the CIS Server located at the banks head office and disaster recovery sites. To ensure minimal load on the branch network uploads and updates can be scheduled and managed.

CIS Search: When a new or 3rd party customer is enrolled at a cashier the customer’s fingerprints are sent to the branch server where the prints are immediately scanned against the fraudster database(less than 1 second), and the results are returned to the cashier.

CIS Server

The Nirph (ASI) advanced server infrastructure forms the core of the CIS structure. The multi core server is located at the banks head office and a disaster recovery server is located offsite.

The CIS Server controls and manages all replication of customer and fraudster data between all the bank branches.

When a new customer is enrolled at a branch and the customer’s data is uploaded to the CIS Server, the new customers fingerprints are then scanned and searched across the complete customer fingerprint database. When matches are found the information is compiled and forwarded to the auditing department. This process ensures elimination of customers banking under different identities as well as tying together customer accounts to one ID.

Nirph CIS Fraud ID

Nirph CIS Fraud ID detects and eliminates fraudsters.

The CIS Fraud ID system is incorporated in all CIS technology. The system is composed of an advanced fingerprint live scan device that scans a customer’s fingerprint1, sends the data to the CIS Branch server where the algorithm is extracted and matched against fraudulent prints stored.

When a match is found the system sends information to the CIS Cashier and displays the fraudsters’ photo, next to the possible fraudsters’ photo on the cashiers’ workstation (The fingerprint is the ultimate identification, the photo is only used as a backup to ensure additional verification). The same information is sent to the head cashier with detailed information at which cashier the fraudster was detected.

This will enable the bank to then handle the matter according to process as set into place by the banks internal audit department.

Nirph Encompass

Data capturing, images scanning and data verification system

After a customer completed a compliancy form, and the customer is enrolled(photo and fingerprints), the CIS Cashier system produce a 9 digit code which the cashier then writes on the form tying it uniquely to the enrolled customer record. The form is then sent to the backend for capturing onto the Nirph Encompass system.

Mandate cards: Nirph Encompass allows for the scanning and data input of customer signature and mandate cards and also allow for the input of customer mandate requests. With Nirph Encompass the backend operator simply enters the customer’s account number into the system, inserts the mandate card into the scanner and press the capture button. The customer’s signature or signatures is then individually scanned and digitized and inputted into the system. With each signature the backend operator now needs to simply input the mandate information as specified on the mandate card.

The customers’ photo attached to the mandate card is scanned in the same process and the backend operator can decide to discard the image or use it as the main customer photo.

Processes and measurements to ensure correct capturing and safeguarding of the compliancy documents are to be implemented by the banks verification and auditing department.

Nirph Encompass Recon

The Nirph Encompass Recon application ties together the customer data captured with Nirph Encompass and the Nirph CIS Cashier system.

CIS Admin System (Control system)

CIS pre- installation management

The Nirph CIS Admin system manages and controls settings for each CIS application located across the branch network ensuring easy deployment of all CIS applications.

When a new branch is scheduled for rollout, the branch system details are entered into Nirph CIS Admin, including details and IP addresses for the branch server, cashier workstations, service workstations and capturing stations. Once this process is completed and CIS are being installed it all the CIS applications will automatically connect to the Nirph CIS Admin system to get their specific settings and rolls. The Nirph CIS admin is managed over a web browser directly on the CIS Server, which in turn sends the data to the CIS Branch server.

Nirph CIS SQLFS

Nirph CIS SQLFS allows for the complete management of CIS applications located across the branch network. Nirph CIS SQLFS ensures that complete version management is centralized and file integrity is in place.

When a system is corrupted running any CIS application the Nirph CIS SQLFS will automatically verify and repair any corrupt files located any system during application launch.

Nirph CIS SQLFS also allows for direct management of any system running a CIS application across the branch network.

Nirph CIS Deploy

Nirph CIS Deploy allows for easy deployment of Nirph CIS applications across a large network.

Nirph CIS Deploy is installed on the local branch server and connects to the Nirph CIS SQLFS system located on the CIS Server.

When a bank is ready to deploy CIS at a branch and the appropriate hardware is installed and functions correctly the support agent installs the Nirph CIS Deployment client, and enters the machine ID and CIS Branch server IP address. The Nirph CIS Deployment client will then automatically locate the appropriate application as defined via Nirph CIS Admin and install the CIS application on the system.
